Finding Support
People access disability supports for many different reasons, and the levels of support that people require, may also change from time to time. Supports are provided to remove barriers, so that everyone can live a full life and participate in their community. Yet, there is still no central service in the Rodney District that provides information about existing local supports. This is very isolating and problematic for anyone seeking this information. RICI is committed to filling this gap.
RICI operates as a place-based networking group. We have collated a Directory of local disability support groups, inclusive activities, and service providers in the Rodney District. We continue to add to this list, as we hear about new groups & opportunities in our region.
For updates and information about 'What's On' in the wider Auckland region, see Disability Connect. Disability Connect is a Disability Information Advisory Service based in Penrose and operates throughout Auckland – north to Warkworth and south to Bombay.
The vision of the New Zealand Disability Strategy is:
"New Zealand is a non-disabling society - a place where disabled people have an equal opportunity to achieve their goals and aspirations, and all of New Zealand works together to make this happen."
